Wolfpack Deliver Statement Win in ACC Play
The No. 20 NC State women’s basketball team showcased their dominance with a commanding 85-57 win over Virginia Tech on Sunday night at Reynolds Coliseum. Led by senior guard Aziaha James, who poured in 25 points, and Saniya Rivers, who surpassed 1,000 career points, the Wolfpack extended their winning streak to five games. NC State improved to 16-4 overall and 8-1 in ACC play, while Virginia Tech fell to 14-6 and 5-4 in conference action.
The Wolfpack set the tone early, outscoring the Hokies 29-12 in the first quarter, fueled by their season-high shooting performance of 76.5%. Their relentless offensive execution and defensive pressure left Virginia Tech struggling to keep pace throughout the game.
Explosive Start for NC State
NC State wasted no time asserting control, jumping out to a quick 12-4 lead behind back-to-back baskets from Zoe Brooks. Madison Hayes opened the scoring just 12 seconds into the game, setting the stage for a dominant first quarter. Aziaha James was unstoppable, scoring 12 of her 25 points in the opening period, including a three-pointer that sparked an 11-0 run. By the end of the first quarter, NC State led 29-12, forcing Virginia Tech to call multiple timeouts in an effort to stem the tide.
The Wolfpack’s defense also played a critical role in their strong start. They forced six turnovers in the first quarter, converting those into fast-break opportunities that added to their growing lead. Virginia Tech, meanwhile, struggled offensively, missing multiple shots and going scoreless for nearly four minutes.
Virginia Tech Shows Life in the Second Quarter
