Miami Hurricanes Roll Past USF for Pivotal Victory
The Miami Hurricanes continued their undefeated streak with a dominant 50-15 win over the University of South Florida (USF) on Saturday night at Raymond James Stadium. In front of a crowd of 58,616, Miami extended their record to 4-0 and further solidified their position as a rising power in college football. This win is especially significant as Miami has now defeated three Florida-based schools this season: USF, FAMU, and the Florida Gators, positioning the Hurricanes as a dominant force in the Sunshine State.
Cam Ward Continues Heisman Campaign
Miami quarterback Cam Ward had another stellar performance, passing for 404 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 43 yards. Ward’s ability to move the offense efficiently helped the Hurricanes overcome an early deficit and pull away in the second half. His connection with wide receivers Xavier Restrepo and Isaiah Horton was evident throughout the night, with Restrepo finishing the game with six catches for 99 yards and Horton catching eight passes for 108 yards and a touchdown.
With Ward now surpassing 15,000 career passing yards, his Heisman candidacy continues to strengthen. His leadership and consistency have played a significant role in Miami’s offensive explosion, as the Hurricanes have now scored 50 or more points in three straight games.
Miami’s Defense Steps Up
The Hurricanes' defense was just as impressive, shutting out USF in the second half and holding the Bulls to 303 total yards. Linebacker Francisco Mauigoa led the defense with 11 tackles, while safety Meesh Powell contributed nine tackles and an interception.
USF quarterback Byrum Brown had a solid outing, passing for 254 yards and catching a 12-yard touchdown pass from wide receiver Sean Atkins. However, the Bulls couldn’t find an answer for Miami’s relentless pass rush, which recorded four sacks and seven tackles for loss. Miami’s defense tightened in key moments, forcing punts and turnovers to stifle any momentum USF tried to build.
Recruiting Implications for Miami
This victory not only helps Miami stay in the national spotlight but also serves as a significant recruiting tool. The Hurricanes have now defeated three in-state schools in USF, FAMU, and the Florida Gators. With a strong presence in Florida, Miami’s ability to win key matchups against local teams bolsters their position when recruiting top high school talent in the state. This win against USF adds further proof that the Hurricanes are on the rise under head coach Mario Cristobal, making Miami a highly attractive destination for recruits.
Looking Ahead
With this win, Miami heads into ACC play with significant momentum. The Hurricanes will face Virginia Tech next week at Hard Rock Stadium, looking to continue their dominance. USF, now 2-2, will turn its attention to its American Athletic Conference opener at Tulane next week.
