Georgia Tech men’s basketball secured a much-needed 71-64 victory over Virginia Tech on Wednesday night at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta. Duncan Powell had a career night, scoring 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including three three-pointers, to lead the Yellow Jackets. The win snapped Georgia Tech’s four-game losing streak, improving their record to 9-11 overall and 3-6 in ACC play.
The Hokies, now 8-11 overall and 3-5 in the ACC, struggled to match the Yellow Jackets’ intensity despite solid performances from Tyler Johnson, Tobi Lawal, and Rodney Brown Jr. Georgia Tech’s balanced scoring and defensive prowess proved to be the difference as they controlled the game in key moments.

Virginia Tech made a late push, fueled by back-to-back three-pointers from Lawal and Jaden Schutt. These shots brought the Hokies within one point at 61-60 with just under five minutes remaining. However, Naithan George responded with Georgia Tech’s first three-pointer of the second half, and a steal and dunk from Ndongo restored a two-possession lead. Powell’s career-high 23 points were the highlight of the night. The junior forward also contributed six rebounds, showcasing his ability to dominate on both ends of the court. McCollum provided crucial support with 16 points and four assists, while Ndongo filled the stat sheet with 14 points, nine rebounds, five steals, and four assists. George rounded out the Yellow Jackets’ double-digit scorers with 11 points and a game-high seven assists.
For Virginia Tech, Johnson led the way with 14 points. Lawal added 13 points and six rebounds, while Brown came off the bench to contribute 10 points and five boards. Despite their efforts, the Hokies struggled to maintain consistency, committing 17 turnovers that led to 20 points for Georgia Tech.
