Memphis, TN– Fresh off a solid conference win and adding to an impressive nine wins out of last ten game stretch, the Memphis Tigers regular season wraps up Sunday afternoon at home. Tip-off against the Cougars is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET on CBS.Sunday's game is a rematch against Houston and senior night for Memphis.
Memphis defeated No. 14 Houston on Feb. 12 in Houston, snapping the Cougars' 37-game home winning streak, which was the second-longest in the nation. Can Memphis close out the regular season and sweep Houston with another big win?
The Tigers currently sit in third place in the American Athletic Conference standings with their 12-5 league mark. Houston sits at the top with a 15-2 record, followed by SMU with a 12-4 record, and Tulane is right behind Memphis at 10-7.
Sunday's game is the 55th in the longtime series between the Tigers and the Cougars, and Memphis has won the last meeting. When Memphis won at Houston this season on Feb. 12, it snapped a three-game losing streak dating back to Mar. 8, 2020. A win Sunday would also give Memphis a regular-season series sweep over Houston for the first time since 2014-15 in the American Athletic Conference. Sunday’s matchup should be another good close game as the last six games between the two schools has been decided by 10 or less points.
Houston enters the game on a six game winning streak. The Cougars are led by Kyler Edwards 13.4 points per game and Josh Carlton 6.7 rebounds per outing. Another key player to watch is Fabian White Jr. who has scored 21-plus points in three-straight games and has been in double figures in eleven-in-a-row.
Following Sunday's game, the Tigers travel to Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas to play in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. The Tigers play on Friday Mar.11in the quarter finals.
